Old Noble Palace In Franciacorta
Prestigious villa/castle for sale between Milan and Lake Garda
15th-century estate with stunning frescoes a few minutes from Franciacorta
In Brescia's leafy countryside, just a few minutes from the renowned Franciacorta area, there is this prestigious 15th-century palace with a charming past for sale.
Perfectly preserved over the centuries, so much so that its enormous historical prestige is now under the protection of the Fine Arts Office, this estate is located in a strategic position to reach the city of Milan and the most renowned destinations by Lake Garda, in an area recognized and appreciated in all over the world for its excellent sparkling wine production.
Originally from the 15th century, the villa has undergone some important subsequent interventions over time, the last of which an extension on the sides at the beginning of the 20th century, in line with the property's typical style and with its original architecture, characterized by a structure of considerable impact, articulated around a fascinating portico dating back to the 16th century, on which stands the imposing exposed brick tower incorporated in the east wing of the villa, an important element still visible today of what was once one of the seventy castles on the border between the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Venice.
Severely damaged in 1701 by a French attack, the villa was brought back to life at the beginning of the 20th century with an important restoration work by architect Luigi Comolli, commissioned by Countess Luisa Martinengo Villagana in Medolago Albani, who wanted to build what for centuries had constituted the country house of her noble family.
Inside the large portico, characterized by five arches on the short sides and six on the long one, there is a charming courtyard of honor, with columns that follow one another symmetrically around the well. The eye is captivated by the splendid paintings of the late 16th century that adorn the lunettes under the portico, giving the entrance of the villa its typical sumptuous character.
From the panoramic balcony that enriches the rear facade of the building, the view opens onto the large richly-planted park that gently descends along the Oglio valley: an authentic, 1.5-hectare haven of rest in the shade of majestic decorative plants immersed in its leafy surroundings, depicted in all their natural beauty in the frescoes of the 17th-century church that overlooks the courtyard.
Walking through the sumptuous rooms of the estate and its fascinating corridors, you can still admire the prestigious historical details originating from the time, including splendid frescoes, elegant coffered ceilings and majestic fireplaces.
