Between History And Splendour: Lavish Palace For Sale In Trieste
Majestic palace boasting 17th-century Venetian elegance for sale in Trieste
Building inspired by Renaissance Venetian architecture and the works of famous architect Baldassare Longhena
In the heart of Trieste, at a stone's throw from the sea, there is this truly unique property for sale, a building that has made the history of this Friulian city. Proud witness of Trieste's ruling class, which dominated the town between the 19th and 20th centuries, this palace of approximately 1,500 sqm was designed by taking inspiration from the magnificent works of Venetian architecture created in the 17th century by famous architect Baldassarre Longhena.
Trieste, a jewel suspended over the Adriatic, enchants with its labyrinth of alleys that tell stories of merchants and sailors, while the majestic Miramare Castle offers a regal view of the gulf and the Adriatic Sea. The Roman Theatre, in the heart of the city, merges with historical cafés and the Old Pier, whose colorful boats recall a unique Mediterranean atmosphere. Trieste, a city of borders and connections, cradle of writers and thinkers, vibrates between the call of the sea and the echo of its multicultural history.
Majestic like a Venetian lady from times past leaning out over an imaginary canal, this property has several floors and measures almost 1,500 sqm; offering numerous lounges, it can fit up to 16 bedrooms and offers, on the last two levels, a wonderful loggia with a boundless panoramic view of Trieste and its sea. The palace is embellished, at the behest of the owners of the early 1900s, with a vibrant mix of styles, among which the seventeenth-century Venetian style of the famous Longhena predominates.
The inspiration for the creation of this magnificent building was the Cà Rezzonico museum and the Cà Pesaro gallery in Venice. Specifically, the original owner wanted the ground floor to be composed of elements taken from the museum, while the next two floors were inspired by the gallery. The top floor, however, features a row of splendid elliptical windows that recall the Library of San Marco.
The ground floor, characterized by a big window with glass bound in lead and the sandstone that enriches columns, arches and pilasters, opens onto a fascinating portico of deliberately exaggerated size and style, the purpose of which is to amaze and enchant visitors crossing the threshold. The magnificent fluted columns with ring bands that adorn the room lead the gaze towards the ceiling in carved stone and wood, with ancient exposed beams. Through a majestic staircase, adorned with a balustrade, Romanesque-style walls and a wonderful frescoed ceiling, we reach the two upper floors.
On the two upper levels the skilful division of spaces and floor plans tells the story of the different eras of history, and there is a Pompeian atrium, a Roman room, a Byzantine room, the medieval living room and the Renaissance dining room. Among these, the Roman room stands out for its sumptuousness and luxury, with walls covered in marble, adorned with Ionic pilasters, a bronze frieze depicting the Roman triumph and life-size marble statues inspired by the statues of the Roman emperors preserved in Vatican museums. These two floors, characterized by white Istrian stone, have big Serlian windows, each with a central arched opening and alternated with fluted columns, which perform the function of lightening the external façade.
This wonderful palace for sale in the heart of Trieste represents the unique opportunity to own a piece of the city's history. The exclusive position enjoyed by the property, a few steps from the sea and in the city centre, makes it perfect as an investment both as a private residence and as a hospitality business. In this building, every floor, every room, and every window presents a different style, with marble, wood and a myriad of fine decorations that testify to a profound reflection on the art, beauty and culture of Italy.
