Majestic Art-nouveau Villa By Gino Coppedè For Sale In Lodi
The only building by famous Florentine architect Gino Coppedè that has remained unchanged is for sale, surrounded by Lodi's leafy countryside
The greatest expression of the Art nouveau style by Gino Coppedè is for sale with a big planted park in the province of Lodi
This majestic historical villa in an Art-Nouveau style for sale is the only building designed by the famous Florentine architect Gino Coppedè that has remained unchanged for over one century, and is surrounded by Lodi's leafy countryside, near the river Adda and in the heart of the Lodi-Cremona-Piacenza triangle.
This truly unique villa was designed and built by the son of Mariano Coppedè and Antonietta Bizzarri, brother of architect Adolfo Coppedè - to whom we owe the Cova Castle in Milan: Gino Coppedè was an eclectic artist who developed his own ornamental style very close, in the choice of some motifs, to the more immediate features of the Art-Nouveau style.
The construction works on the villa, conceived as a wedding gift from Carlo Biancardi to his future bride Antonietta Bono, began in 1908 and ended in December 1911. It is no coincidence that the choice for the construction of a hospitable and welcoming home fell on the most eclectic and talented architect of the early 1900s, who was also a sculptor and decorator, who lovingly combined elements of the neo-Gothic style in the construction with the Florentine artistic and cultural heritage in the decorative techniques of Mannerism, the Renaissance and the more immediate features of the Art-Nouveau style.
This prestigious 3,000-sqm villa rises on three floors, in addition to a basement, to which is added another level created inside the corner tower that stands out majestically to sanction the grandeur of this estate. The view from here contemplates the property's vast green area, which measures two hectares, cared for down to the smallest detail and full of fine plants, including majestic cedars of Lebanon, sequoias, magnolias and cherry trees, camellias and hydrangeas in a true triumph of scents and colors. The splendid 152-sqm swimming pool is the real pride of the park, bordered by a masonry and wooden fence in a continuous alternation of spiers that lead to the entrance on the west side, where there is a neo-Gothic style door protected by two frescoes.
The facades of the building are tinged with the colors of brick and stone, enlivened by mullioned windows with thick ornaments and sinuous, slender shapes, which seem to protect the stone staircase and the loggia with three bays located in the middle of the ground and first floors. Among the internal rooms on the ground floor, the Main Hall stands out, a splendid expression of the artistic inspiration of the master cabinetmakers of the time, in which marble fireplaces with ornamental majolica tiles from the Florentine art school shine, with fine coffered ceilings with elegant wrought iron textures and frescoed walls in shades of light blue or gold, with unique glimpses of polychrome graffiti work. The Art Nouveau style instead finds expression in the White Hall, dedicated to the game of billiards, lit up by a copy of the chandelier in the cathedral of Pisa which, according to legend, inspired what we know today as "Galileo Galilei's Pendulum Law". From here a majestic staircase leads to the library and the loggia located on the main facade, the antechamber of the terrace on the right. Among the other rooms that make up the ground floor, there are several halls, the kitchen, some bathrooms and two groups of internal stairs, as well as an elevator.
On the first noble floor there is a large living room and several bedrooms with private bathrooms and frescoed ceilings depicting the animal world with butterflies, swans, sparrows, etc. There are also several storage rooms, bathrooms, balconies, loggias and porches. On the second main floor, the oval entrance leads to the living room with a kitchen and pantry, several bathrooms and bedrooms, two large balconies and a splendid covered terrace that runs along the perimeter of a room.
The garden, built on several levels faithfully to the original project, also includes a heated greenhouse, a one-story 92-sqm construction made of solid bricks and glass.
Imposing and majestic in size, fascinating and harmonious in its forms, the residence, due to its immense historical value and its surprising beauty, is bound by the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage.
