Ancient Fortress On The Hills Of The Liguarian Riviera

Truly unique historical property for sale on top of a hill at approximately 1,200 meters of altitude, just thirty minutes from Finale Ligure's sea, one of the most charming towns of the Ligurian Riviera.

The property is a historical fortress of approximately 1,250 sqm, built between 1883 and 1895. Purchased by private citizens in 2010, it has been perfectly restored according to an ambitious project aimed at introducing a modern design into its various rooms, which still have traces of the original plaster, some railings and windows of the time.

The polygonal structure of the fort, built in local stone, stands immersed in six leafy hectares of grounds, occupied almost entirely by coppice, within which perfect traffic is guaranteed by a private road built specifically for this purpose. From the top of its panoramic position, it boasts a panoramic view that runs all the way to the sea.

This ancient defensive building is still protected by a deep moat that surrounds it entirely, which is in turn defended by a high ring embankment. Together, they prevent full vision from the outside, so that its presence is only perceptible at the main gate.

The structure is accessed from a wooden bridge, which was probably originally a drawbridge, passing below the big door, which still has the name of the fort engraved on it. We then reach the internal curtain wall, paved in stone, while in an adjacent external courtyard, where the defensive and attacking artillery was once located, we can still see the original open-air cannons. Below, on a small mound, in what was the ammunition depot at the time, a small private church has now been built.

Thanks to the size of its outdoor spaces, it was also possible to create a helipad for private use and a temporary outdoor swimming pool with a view of the sea, while the project for an infinity pool, heated with hydromassage and with mosaic cladding, is being defined.

Designed to skilfully combine the charm of the past with high contemporary living standards, the main estate features a big entrance hall leading to a living room, a charming dining room, a private library, an equipped eat-in kitchen and two study rooms, one of which with a typical fireplace. The sleeping area has five splendid bedrooms and four bathrooms. Among the utility rooms we find an apartment for staff, a huge warehouse, a laundry room and a garage. All the rooms have been restored with particular attention to detail, furnished with unique pieces of custom-made furniture.

The caretaker's accommodation, currently under renovation, has an entrance, a living room, a kitchen, two double bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The location in which it stands, in the hinterland of Finale Ligure but twenty minutes from the beaches, makes it easily reachable from Genoa, Monte Carlo and Milan, which are 45 minutes, an hour and a half and two hours away, respectively.
