Majestic portion of a villa designed by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro in the 1700s for sale by Naples' sea
Lavish portion of a villa designed by Vaccaro in a Late Baroque style for some members of the Bourbon court by Naples' sea
This eighteenth-century Royal Villa is a splendid creation by artist Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, a famous Campanian painter, sculptor and architect of the 1700s, which majestically stands in an enchanting setting by the sea in Naples. This extraordinary property for sale is a precious portion of this historical villa in the Late Baroque style, originally built for members of the royal Bourbon Court. With a surface area of 1,250 square meters distributed over three levels, this estate offers sumptuous halls where every room is steeped in history.
The villa, designed around 1730 by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro for the Prince of Sirignano, Domenico Caravita, was initially donated to King Charles, an eminent member of the Bourbon Court, with the agreement to maintain its use during the donor's lifetime. Subsequently, upon the death of Duke Domenico, the King returned the estate to its legitimate heir, the Duke of Turin, Giuseppe Caravita. Over the years, the villa has undergone several changes which have altered its original appearance. Its designer, Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, a renowned Neapolitan painter, sculptor, architect and draftsman, has left his mark on the artistic history of Naples, contributing to many of the most important churches in Naples and the region.
This villa is an extraordinary example of Vaccaro's Late Baroque genius. The main facade is made up of five sections that extend from the sides to create a protruding effect at the height of the central section. Each part has a relief compared to the main body of the building. The central section protrudes thanks to two arched walls, while the lateral sections take on a prismatic shape with straight walls. The result is a series of projections arranged in a decreasing manner up to the wings. Its two floors are adorned with elaborate molded frames which, on the top floor, support a majestic balustrade adorned with decorative vases. Bare, classic pilasters frame the different sections, while the triglyphs act as pseudo capitals near the architrave. The windows, with a sober and classic appearance, are decorated with linear capitals, while those on the main floor are dominated by austere rectangular windows.
The main entrance, which overlooks the gardens, is located on the left side and has a rich decoration with coffered, stucco medallions in bas-relief and elliptical lights surmounted by volutes. The rear part, in contrast, features Art-Nouveau style elements. Inside this sumptuous estate, an atmosphere of luxury unfolds, through a series of corridors, we access sumptuous frescoed halls, four very classy bedrooms, three designer bathrooms and a spacious kitchen with a very scenic atmosphere. Each space is embellished with floors adorned with elaborate, unique mosaics, sumptuous tapestries and period furnishings in the Baroque and Art Nouveau style, as well as precious statues and authentic works of art. The ceilings, frescoed with priceless paintings, are enriched with opulent chandeliers.
A spacious veranda in front of the building opens towards the sea, anticipating the main structure. Agile ashlar pilasters support a terrace on the main floor. A solitary third level, featuring a big window decorated with a coat of arms and eclectic floral motifs, extends from the central section. The gardens, once sumptuous and which extended as far as the Reggia di Portici and via Marina, still preserve beautiful statues and a spacious ancient pool.
This piece of history is now available for sale on the splendid seaside of Naples, one of the oldest cities in Europe. Naples is an authentic open-air museum, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. This eighteenth-century Royal Villa, an authentic artistic masterpiece of the Late Baroque, is a sumptuous and one-of-a-kind residence.
